Dr. Richard Granberg [12/08/1930 - 01/31/2012]

http://www.dewittandtabler.com/pages/show_content.php?siteid=128&action=1&value=12&obituaries_action=2&obituaryid=114476

Dr. Granberg passed away at his home with his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; his son, Mark (Lori); his daughter, Deborah; and his grandchildren Reilly, Devlin, Bryan, Garrett and Hanna.

Richard lived life to the fullest and treasured the time he spent with family and friends. He was a Marine before going into medical school. He told us many times it was a turning point in his life and gave him the direction to become a physician.

Dr. Granberg loved his patients and was dedicated to his medical practice in Denver, Colorado. He was a member of numerous medical societies, and was past President of the Denver Unit and Colorado Unit of the Cancer Society in the 1970s. He was an associate professor at the CU Medical School and traveled the state performing physicals and pap smears for various charity clinics. Before retiring from medicine, he became interested in ranching and raising Simmental cattle.

Those who knew him, remember his passion for sports especially CU and Broncos football, and, of course, we went to all the games. Several hours were spent reading about football news on the internet and discussing upcoming new recruits with friends.

Richard loved the outdoors. Early in his life, he skied many slopes in Colorado. At A-Basin, he worked as a ski patrolman and suffered an ankle injury when he landed upside down in a tree when clearing a run. He was a patient instructor, teaching his friends and family how to ski. He also built and flew model airplanes when he lived in Mesquite, Nevada. His real passion was fly-fishing, either on the river, or later in life out on his boat on Georgetown Lake. He loved his cabin in Montana where he stated that he felt closest of God. It was there he felt at peace and experienced great happiness. The memories he created there with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends will forever hold a special place in our hearts and our minds. It is at this special place that we will spread his remains in celebration of his great life.

He lived his life like a champ until the day he passed. His friends and family will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his honor to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 720 S. Colorado Blvd, Suite 500S, Denver, CO 80246. The Denver Hospice, 501 S. Cherry St. Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246. The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 99628, Washington, D.C. 20090.
