Obituary for Chris Joseph Herrera
On April 23rd, 2017, Chris Joseph Herrera, passed away to join his heavenly father. Chris was born on May 7th, 1964 in Denver and lived his life fully with no regret. Chris’s passion was the outdoors. If he was not out hunting or fishing, he was dreaming about it, planning on future trips, watching u-tube videos or the next outdoor series on television, he was shopping at all the outdoors stores, or spending countless hours on the internet looking for the next best fishing/hunting/camping gear to buy. On Chris’s off time, he worked for the University of Colorado in Boulder as a Dining Mechanic. Not many people can say that they enjoyed their job, but Chris did. He amazed his doctors over two years with his determination to go back to work between treatments despite the suggestions to rest. Chris was diagnosed with colon cancer on October 24, 2014. For two and a half years Chris fought his battle bravely. He will be remembered as the strongest and most caring individual that we know. He was an honorable son, a devoted husband, a guiding light to his brother and a very loving father. We will continue to miss him and our hearts will be forever warmed by his loving memory.
Chris is survived by his mother Elmira, his father Daniel, his wife Sunny, his son Isaac, daughter-in-law Dora, his granddaughter Isabella, his other son Nicholas, his son-in-law Mike, his brother Ernest, his sister-in-law Maryjo, his nephew’s Nathan and Jacob, and countless aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donating to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation or the Colorado Division of Wildlife in Chris’s name. If you wish to help the family with funeral costs you may also do so by donating to Chris’s go fund me account at
