Obituary for Anthony Richet Wofford
Anthony Richet Wofford was born May 15th 1949 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Chester and Rowana Wofford. As a young teen, he moved with his parents and younger brother Stan to Lakewood, Colorado. While attending Alameda High School, he participated in football and wrestling, and excelled academically. He graduated high school with honors and received a scholarship to attend Princeton University in New Jersey. He also received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. After a year at Princeton, he transferred to the University of Maryland at Baltimore and later to the University of Colorado Denver. It is there that he met future wife Wanda Holloway. After college, he worked for the Bureau of Land Management and was able to travel extensively to locations like Florida and Yellowstone National Park. He then began a 30 year career with the United States Postal Service. As an avid traveler, he was able to visit Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, as well as many states. His favorite music was jazz and favorite artist included B.B. King, Joe Williams, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, and Al Green. He enjoyed discovering new and delicious barbeque, soul food, Mexican, and Cajun restaurants. As a sports lover, he followed University of Oklahoma football, the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and Colorado Avalanche. Towards the end of his life, he began to make dear friends and open up emotionally and spiritually. He passed away peacefully on June 7th at Hallmark Rehab Center. He is survived by Wanda Wofford, only child and daughter Melody, uncle George Vann, aunt Marilyn as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and friends. Family and friends are encouraged to attend an inspiring homegoing service on Saturday, June 27th at 1pm at the DeWitt and Tabler Mortuary, 12114 Grant Circle in Thornton, Colorado. A light reception will be held at the mortuary following the service.
