Obituary for Antonio "Tony" Mio
Tony (Antonio) Mio was born 8/13/1920 in Cordenons, Italy. He passed away peacefully at home in Northglenn, CO, surrounded by his family on 3/17/2017.
Tony spent his early childhood in Cordenons, Italy. At the age of 9, he immigrated to International Falls, MN, where he later graduated from high school. He began his career at The Daily Journal as a photographer after serving three and one half years in the United States Navy during WWII. His photography continued into his new career at Boise Cascade as well as working in Human Resources.
On September 25, 1948, Tony married Marvel Osell and together they raised a family of four children, including Vicky (Oveson), Bill, Tom, and Betty. After retiring from Boise Cascade, in 1983, Tony and Marvel became snowbirds, sharing time between Green Valley, AZ and International Falls, before moving to Northglenn, CO in 2011.
Tony’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and spending time at their cabin on Dryweed Island with family and friends. He was a past member of the Elks Club, Philosophers Club, VFW, Sportmen’s Club, St. Thomas Aquinas Church, and Green Valley Lapidary Club.
Tony was preceded in death by his father Eugenio Mio, his mother Pasqua, brother Angelo Mio, sister Angeline Toninato, and grandson Jeffrey Mio. He is survived by Marvel, his wife of 68 years, and his children, Vicky Oveson, Bill, Tom (Terri), and Betty.
He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren: Tammy (Troy) Barber, Sarah (Shay) Geisler, Penny (Mike) Hirst, Amy (Chris) Schwanke, Jonathan Mio, Laura (John) Langdahl, Ariel Mio, Tony (Kirstin) Mio, plus 9 great grandchildren and numerus nieces and nephews.
A small memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 22 at 2p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Northglenn, CO, and a graveside service will be held at a future date in International Falls, MN.
Memorials can be donated to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, International Falls, MN, or to the charity of your choice. Cards may be sent to the family home at 2917 E 109th Ave, Northglenn, CO 80233.
