Obituary for Charles Walter Wooten, Sr.
Charles Walter Wooten, 84, of Broomfield, Colorado, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 23rd . He was born November 5th, 1929 in Raleigh, North Carolina to Garron and Sadie (Nettie) Wooten. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 8 at 2:00 pm at Crossroads Church, 10451 Huron St., Northglenn, Colorado 80234. A committed Christian, Charles was an ordained minister and received his Master of Divinity Degree from Denver Seminary (then Conservative Baptist Theological Seminary). He and his wife Millie were active in several churches in the Front Range area, also serving as lay pastors and missionaries to Taiwan. Chuck received his Master of Education Degree from University of Colorado and spent several decades as an educator and elementary school teacher. He was instrumental in creating the Outdoor Education program in Adams County District 12 Schools. An avid mountaineer, he climbed many of the “Fourteeners” in Colorado and was a bit of an expert on Longs Peak, which he summited three times. Along with one of his climbing buddies, Jim Looney, he founded and operated Upward Bound Expeditions, a Christian backpacking organization for teens that was modeled on Outward Bound. Chuck traveled to China to teach English, where he made many new friends, learned some Chinese, and came to love the Chinese people and culture. His interests also included aviation, skiing and writing. He took flying lessons when he could, and had some wonderful experiences. He is survived by his wife, Millie, of Broomfield, children Chuck (Justina) Wooten of Thornton, Christine (Doug) Chesson of Williamston, North Carolina, Cynthia (Walt) Wooten-Wolfenbarger of Port Orchard, Washington, niece Anne (James) Ruzic of Alabama, nephews Mike (Cheryl) Wooten and Phil (Kathy) Wooten of Georgia, grandchildren Douglas, Garron and Caroline Chesson of North Carolina, Whitney (Mason) Oakley and Quade Wooten of Thornton, Colorado.
