Obituary for Gale Wilbur Day
Gale W Day born 12-06-1927 to 04-16-2019
Gale was born in Westminster Colorado to Francis and Doris Day. He continued to live in Westminster for 91 years. He is survived by three sisters. Lillian Brink. Barbara Anderson, Carol Ranum and one Brother, Richard Day. As a boy in Westminster, he milked the family goat and worked in a nearby orchard. In high school he played the trumpet in the school band, performed in school plays and musicals,played football and met Betty Josephine White.
After graduating and a short time in college, he served in the US Army in Korea. Upon returning home he earned his private pilot's license and flying became a passion throughout his life. Â
He married Betty Jo and they had 2 children, Ronald Day (Debby) and Patricia Bentley (Dennis). He worked as a printer, insurance agent and in real estate.Â
Throughout his life, he enjoyed singing. He was active at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he attended his entire life and served in many capacities. He sang in the choir, for weddings and funerals and in community groups. Gale also loved to fly and took many family vacations, fishing trips and trips to Ron’s farm in Delta in his small plane. He even wrote a book about his love of flying. Â
Gale and Betty Jo were able to celebrate 60 years of marriage. In the later years while he cared for her at home with Alzheimer’s he wrote 2 more books. Â
Gale has 5 grandchildren; Jenifer Bentley, Michelle Kehmeier (Jared), Krista Bentley, Jeff Day (Kacy), Melinda Bryant (Mason). 12 great-grandchildren; Kailea Eddlemon, Cobe Eddlemon, Paige Kehmeier, Makena Eddlemon, Noah Kehmeier, Melia Eddlemon, Bode Eddlemon, Chase Bryant, Hudson Day, Drake Bryant, Wesley Day and Evelyn Day.
In the past 10 years, Gale enjoyed the companionship of Annabelle Stadler. He was still going strong after moving into assisted-living. He started playing in a bell choir and was preparing to sing a duet in the talent show. He never wanted to be idle and began writing modern versions of some of his favorite bible stories.Â
Gale W Day remained passionate about his faith, family, friends, flying and fishing. He will be in our hearts and memories.
