Obituary for Ian Theodore Torres
To those who met him, Ian was a quiet, peaceful and calm person. To his mother, Ian was a loving and devoted son; a cook, a gardener, a caregiver, a companion, a musician. To his father, Ian was a loving and devoted son, a fellow musician and confidant. To his brothers and sister, Ian was the loving little brother, the confidant, the prankster and co-conspirator. To his extended family, Ian was the loving uncle and cousin, expert hug giver, advisor and confidant. To his friends and co-workers, Ian was a capable chef, organizer, sounding board and the person with the 'can do' and positive influence. But most importantly, Ian was a child of God, a forgiven and blessed man, a heart filled with thankfulness and a witness to others of God's goodness and mercy. His favorite hymn 'Amazing Grace' was his testimony. At any hour, Ian could be heard softly whistling or strumming 'Amazing Grace' on the guitar. It gave him peace and assurance in God's plan for him. But Ian, as we all do, also had his moments of doubt, fear and confusion, but when he called upon God for help and forgiveness, it was given. His renewed conviction and faith also inspired his family and friends, and we loved him all the more. Material possession didn't mean much to him, but giving was very much a part of who he was. It was natural for Ian to give gifts for every occasion and they were all given out of love. Ian's sweet gentle spirit and calm demeanor drew many friends to him, and he will be dearly missed. In Ian's earthly role as a chef, be assured he is now in God's kitchen, preparing the Heavenly Feast, consulting with other chefs and most likely telling them 'Get out of my kitchen!'. But when God comes into the kitchen, Ian will gently say 'Thanks, Lord, but I have it under control.' In his earthly role as a musician, be assured Ian is now playing his best bass in the Heavenly Band, his smooth, intricate and soulful runs resounding throughout Heaven. Our hearts are heavy and we grieve for Ian, but we will be comforted that Ian, as a Child of God, is at peace and rejoicing with the family and friends who have been waiting for him, and that we too will see him again. Ian is survived by his mother Dorcas (Donald) Gamble; father Joseph (Josie) Torres; sister Jody (Mark) VonFeldt; brothers Dale (Kathleen) Torres and Gerald Torres; son Matthew; numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. Preceded in death by brother Joseph Torres II. Visitation will be from 2-6 PM Sunday October 27, 2013, at DeWitt and Tabler Funeral Home, 12114 Grant Circle, Thornton, CO 80241. Funeral Services will 11 AM Monday October 28, 2013, at Crossroads Church, 104th Avenue & Huron, Northglenn, CO 80234. Memorial gifts in Ian’s honor may be given to COFU (Community of Faith United) 10530 Huron Street, Northglenn, CO 80234, ph (303) 452-2727 or www.confu.org
