Janice Ann Turner Perko Powell passed away Aug 7, 2025 in the care of Hospice. Janice was born March 1, 1940 (and always talked of how close she came to being a leap year baby) and left this earth peacefully on Aug 7, 2025.
She was born in Denver, CO to Roy E. Turner and Anita E. Green Turner, and lived the majority of her life in her beloved Colorado. Janice loved all things to be beautiful and coordinated, often having people comment on her outfits and look being put together perfectly. That same devotion showed in her home and every holiday and celebration she was a part of. She started her marriage as a Navy wife, which afforded her the opportunity to travel to places other than Colorado, but she always and ultimately returned to the state that was a part of her.
After her early years, she had 3 children and spent time as a housewife until her early 30s, when she decided to fulfill a lifelong desire to become a nurse. Running a household, and raising 3 kids while pursuing her education was quite a feat at that time, and it became the beginning of her career as a Medical Records Director in a skilled nursing facility until her retirement. She spent the years that followed enjoying her friends and family, shopping (her passion) and taking care of her home and gardens, which were always the most beautiful and tended. She was a voracious reader and had books from every imaginable genre, most of which she had read more than once, with her all time favorite being Gone With the Wind. She was all of 5 feet tall, but was as feisty as they come, attested to by all who knew her.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Karen Perko Elkins (Michael Kester) of Cottonwood, AZ, and her son, David Perko (Annette) of Concord, NC, having been predeceased by her youngest son, Brian Perko (Valerie). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren,10 great grandchildren, and several nieces. Also predeceased by her husband, Gordon Powell, her parents, and her 2 sisters.
