Obituary for John Lawrence Garcia
John Lawrence Garcia, age 64, departed this life on September 9, 2014 in Commerce City, Colorado. On November 14, 1949, John L. was born to John and Mary Garcia in Sopris, Colorado. He was the eldest brother of thirteen children in the Garcia Family. John L. served in the U.S. Army Infantry earning his Combat Infantry Badge from November 1968 to October 1971. During his admirable service he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and numerous other awards for his gallantry service during his two tours in Vietnam. In 2012, John L. retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 23 years of employment. John L. was an avid reader, particularly novels written by Stephen King and Dean Koontz. He enjoyed collecting coins, watching movies and he especially enjoyed going gambling in Black Hawk. John L. liked his “oldies” music and was a long time fan of The Beatles’ songs. One of his favorite things to do was spend time with some of his sisters and brothers over a bowl of Menudo at one of his favorite Mexican food restaurants; these moments will always be treasured by his family. John L. will truly be missed and will be forever loved and in our hearts. John L. is survived by his sisters: Julie (Joe) Romero, Margie (Bob) Price, Donna (John) Englert, Vickie (Steve) Briley, Maryjane Bowman, Carol (Nondo) Capuano, Gia (Wayne) Price; brothers: Wilfred (Diane) Garcia, John Paul (Charlotte) Garcia, Gary (Brandy) Garcia; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. John L. is preceded in death by his loving parents John and Mary and his sisters Vera Maucione and Joann (Rodney) Cordova, his brother Donald Garcia and his nephew Brandon Bowman. Inurnment will be with Honors at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, located at 4400 West Kenyon Avenue, Denver, Colorado on Friday, September 19th, at 10:15 AM, at Staging Area C. Reception will immediately follow at 10 Covington Drive, Englewood, Colorado 80113.
