Obituary for Joseph Gilbert Apodaca
Joseph “Gil” Apodaca was born on March 8th, 1927 in Denver CO. He was one of seven children of Herman and Rebecca Apodaca; and one of three sons. Joseph, the father of nine and grandfather of numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren was known and will be remembered as a determined and strong spirit that continuously inspire his family. He was preceded by his loving wife Phyllis; daughter Theresa, and was the last survivor of his six siblings. He is survived by his sons- Jimmy, Robert, Ronnie, Gill and daughters- Margo, Gilda, Vickie and Annette. In 1953, Joseph became a proud and respected employee for the City and County of Denver. After enjoying many years working with the street maintenance team, Joseph retired in 1988. During his career with the City, Joseph also worked as a cab driver, a bartender because his dedication to provide a great life for his family. He was known as a confident, hard worker who had a great love for the outdoors. It was rare to not see Joseph working on his lawn, in his garden or enjoying sunshine with his family or friends. As a leader of the family, Joseph endlessly provided love and support for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was important for Joseph to always remain available to lend a hand to family, friends and neighbors; he was frequently confided in and trusted in times of need. Joseph joined his wife, Phyllis and became involved with the Denver North Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where he continued his spiritual growth, and studied the teachings of the Bible. His commitment to his spirituality he developed the faith that was necessary to remain self-assured and continue his journey as a God loving individual. Although, Joseph was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, his spirit, faith and determination kept him strong for himself and his family. Not once did his medical condition define who he was: a caring father; and outdoorsman; a lover of life; and most importantly a believer of Jehovah. Through his love, power and drive, Joseph G. Apodaca left a lasting memory and impression on everyone he encountered. Though Joseph is gone, the legacy and principles he left behind will always be in motion. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. His family includes his Wife Phyllis Apodaca (deceased) Children Margo & Mel, Gilda, Ronnie & Cindy Jimmy & Angel, Theresa (deceased), Vickie & Gilbert, Robert, Annette & Adam, Gil Many Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren Acknowledgement-The Family would like to thank everyone for your loving concern and support. The many phone calls, cards and expressions of condolence remind us of how much our Dad touched so many lives. We especially appreciate your prayers that have helped us to endure in this very difficult time.
