Obituary for Karen Marie Young
Karen Marie Young, age 76, of Thornton, passed away August 25, 2018. She was born October 20, 1941, in Laramie, Wyoming, to Edward Leroy and Elda Louise White Gale. She was raised in Wyoming and attended high school in Torrington, Wyoming.
In 1965, she married Richard J. Helmes in Wyoming. They had three children, Jeffrey, Joel and Jaime; they later divorced. In 1989, she married James Young. He brought to the family two children, Ken and Katie. In December of 2006, James preceded her in death.
She was an accounts payable technician in the telecommunications industry, retiring with more than 20 years of service.
She enjoyed traveling the country to visit family. She was quirky and had a wonderful sense of humor. She liked D.I.Y. projects and finding ways to be crafty. She could often be found dragging her family to antique shops. She especially enjoyed spending time with her girlfriends. And, naturally, she adored her grandbabies!
She was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Denver.
Survivors include her sons, Jeffrey (Sherri) of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Joel of Thornton; step-son, Ken Young of Greeley; step-daughter, Katie Moore of Atlanta, Georgia; and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Jamie.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018, Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 500 Drake Street, in Denver. Reception to follow. Inurnment – Ft. Logan Cemetery at a later date.
