Obituary for Lewis Robert Moore
Lewis Robert Moore, 89, of Ulysses, Kansas, passed away on July 14, 2016 at his son’s home in Westminster, Colorado.

Robert was born on January 26, 1927 in Syracuse, Kansas to Lewis Warren and Mary Jane (Forgy) Moore.

Robert grew up in southeast Kearny County, Kansas on the family farm that his Father homesteaded. They survived the dirty thirties by relocating to an old abandoned homestead which Robert later purchased for his home. Robert attended a one room country school in Kearny County and attended high school in Lakin, Kansas.

World War II broke out during his high school years so as soon as he graduated Robert enlisted in the Army. After boot camp he was stationed in Italy for the remainder of his military duty. Robert received an honorable discharge.

Robert’s sister Fern introduced him to a young teacher by the name of Margie Dee Wright. He thought she would make a “pretty good wife” so he proposed and they were married in Denver, Colorado on May 20, 1949 and to that union six children were born.

Margie and Robert farmed in the southern part of Kearny County, Kansas until 2008 when they moved in to Ulysses.

Robert has been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1957. Over the years he held many leadership positions. He had a great love for his family and tried to teach his children and grandchildren the value of work and responsibility.

Robert is survived by three siblings: Ruth Dyson of Great Bend, KS; Charley Moore of Morro Bay, CA and Francis Moore of Pasco, WA; six children: James Lewis Moore (Vickie) of Westminster, Colorado, Denise Kay Moore Fitzpatrick (Steve) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Dee Ann Moore of Ulysses, Kansas; Dena Lee Moore Hess of Aurora, Colorado, John Wayne Moore (Angie) of Cooperstown, North Dakota and DeLynn Jane Moore Longfellow (John) of Ulysses, Kansas; 21 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Robert was proceeded in death by his wife, Margie Dee Wright Moore, his parents, one sister (Fern), two brothers (George and Dick) and one granddaughter, Rachel Ann Longfellow Straub of Ulysses, Kansas.

Family visitation and funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 21 West Maize Ave; Ulysses, Kansas. Family visitation from 9:00 am – 9:45 am (CST) with services immediately following from at 10:00 am (CST). Interment and a short graveside service will take place following the services at approximately 11:30 am (CST) at the Lakin Cemetery, Lakin, KS.
