Obituary for Loraine Everly Lawson Jones
Loraine Everly Lawson Jones passed away on June 25, 2011. Visitation will be held June 28, 2011 from 5:30pm to 8:00 pm at Augustana Lutheran Church, services will also be held at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Ave. Denver, CO on Wednesday June 29, 2011 at 11:00 am.
Mrs. Jones was born in Jamestown, New York on July 5, 1926, She reveived a diploma from the Lutheran Bible Institute, Minneapolis, MN, R.N., Lutheran Hospital, Moline, IL, BA, Summa Cum Laude, M.A. + 70 hours in biology, Adams State College, Alamosa, CO, American Association of University Professors Award, Delta Kappa Gamma; Phi Delta Kappa. She was the Science Department Chair, Alamosa High School, Alamosa, CO, where she taught for over 15 years. She developed and taught a curriculum of four years of biology coursework, including human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, genetics and botany, a feat unmatched even today in the largest high schools in the state. This earned her the Outstanding Biology Teacher of the Year in 1981 by the National Association of Biology Teachers. Because of their tremendous high school preparation, many of students became leaders in healthcare and other scientific disciplines. As a professional photographer, her pictures were used in science work, CD covers and two published pictorial books. As a violinist, she was Concert Mistress in the Adams State College Orchestra, the San Luis Valley Community Orchestra and the Grafton, ND Symphonette Orchestra. She sang in numerous church choirs throughout her life, and the Colorado Choir under the direction of her husband, Randolph \"Casey\" Jones for over 30 years. Her warm heart and srong Christian faith infulenced many to find and strengthen their own faith in Jesus Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, and survived by her husband, Randolph \"Casey\" Jones, four children, Rebecca Jones of Ft. Worth, TX, Dr. Randa Degerness, Nathtan Jones, and Kirtsen Peaslee, all of Denver, CO, twelve granchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
