Marie E. (Junker) Almquist, 87, of Thornton, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026.
Born on October 30, 1938, Marie was known for her quiet strength, gentle spirit, and loving heart. A devoted homemaker, she dedicated her life to caring for her family, creating a home filled with warmth, faith, and kindness.
Marie graduated from Indianola Public High School and was a lifelong member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Northglenn, Colorado.
On October 15, 1960, she married the love of her life, James Almquist, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola, Nebraska. Together they built a life grounded in faith, devotion, and family. They were blessed with three daughters-Elaine Jordan, Lorie Ruby, and Debbie Brown-who carry forward their mother's compassion and quiet strength. Marie's legacy continues through her seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
She found happiness in life's simple pleasures: knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, reading, fishing, and camping. When Jim retired in 1991, Marie happily became his navigator, cook, and dishwasher as they embarked on a memorable two-year RV journey across the United States-an adventure she cherished.
Marie is survived by her husband, Jim; her daughters, Elaine, Lorie, and Debbie; her brother, Patrick Junker; and her sister, Connie Shively. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Elizabeth (Lehn) Junker; and her brothers, Edward, Lawrence "Shorty," Thomas, and Richard Junker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Food Bank of the Rockies or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, causes that reflected Marie's generous and compassionate spirit.
Burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
