Obituary for Merle Markle Joseph Matt
Merle Matt, age 72, passed away June 1, 2012, with family members by his side. Merle was born July 4, 1939, in St. Ignatius, Montana to Armenia and Louis (Sonny) Matt. He was a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, located on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and crafting unique works of art for his family and spending time in his wood shop. Merle attended Northern Montana College in Havre, leading to a long career as owner of Matt Design Company, specializing in patent illustrations. Merle is survived by Diane Matt, his wife of 27 years, and 4 daughters: Gay Rowe and spouse Dan Rowe, Robin Richardson and spouse Terry Richardson, Kristi Dittmann and spouse Jim Dittmann, Jami Medina and spouse Alvaro Medina, and one son: Sean Barlow and spouse Kathy Barlow. He had 10 grandchildren: Danielle Maestas and spouse Richard Maestas, Jenny Ellsworth, Lhexann Richardson, Michael Ellsworth, Christopher Barlow, Zachary Ruiz, Taylor Rowe, Rhawni Ruiz, Kyle Rowe, Ashley Barlow, and 6 great grandchildren: Maya, Dominic, Destiny, Lilliana, Aaden, and Silas. Merle’s siblings include: Helen Leishman, Thelma McDonald, Ronald Matt, Joyce Wallen, Edith Morigeau, Zilia Lewis, Bunny Wilder, Janice Shea, Marlene Roberts, and Penny Kipp. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Clifford Matt. His numerous nieces and nephews also loved and adored him. A 'Remembrance Celebration' will be held Tuesday June 5 at 2 PM at DeWitt and Tabler in Thornton, Colorado.
