Obituary for Mina Reathel Gaston
Mina Gaston, of Little Rock, AR, passed away 8/05/2017 at the age of 88, in Broomfield, CO of pancreatic cancer. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Aunt. Born May 5, 1929 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Sylvester and Florence Sell, she was the youngest of six children: Ralph, Floyd, Walter, Yvonne, and Geneva.

In 1950, she married LeRoy Gaston, a career Sr. Master Sergeant in US Air Force. They travelled the world during his service and this initiated her love of travel. Widowed at the age of 40, she returned to school and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. She continued her education and earned a Masters of Social Work and worked for the Arkansas Department of Human Services for over 20 years.

Mina is survived by her sister, Geneva (JB) Kinder of Ohio; her son Gary (Melinda) Gaston of Mayflower, AR; daughter, Karen (Doug) Malcolm of Broomfield, CO; five grandchildren: Betsy (Jason) Leahan, Mary Gaston; Cameron, Brennan, and Lt. Grayson Malcolm; two great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Julia Leahan and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mina was a dedicated member of the Little Rock Seventh-day Adventist church. She lived life believing that each new day and experience was better than the day before and brought this positive, cheerful attitude to every endeavor and every person she met. Her favorite song, a Bible school song, “Brighten the Corner Where You Are”, epitomized her life. Her cheerful smile, friendly disposition and positive outlook will be missed by all that knew her.
A memorial service will be held at the Little Rock National Cemetery in Little Rock, AR on Monday, August, 21 at 11am where she will be buried with her husband LeRoy.
