Obituary for Phyllis Jean Longstaff
On Monday, November 28th, Phyllis Jean Eaton Longstaff passed away at the age of 80. She was born on November 16, 1931 to the late Lloyd and Ellen Eaton of Chadron, Nebraska. I will mention that she passed away on the same date as her Mother (14 years ago). Phyllis graduated from Chadron High School and attended one year at Chadron State College. She married Leonard G. Longstaff on June 10, 1951 and they had been married for 60 years. They spent most of their married life moving to various towns in the State of Nebraska, too many to mention here. Phyllis was active in the Red Hat Society, donated blood for many years and loved to play bridge. Reading was a passion of hers also. She liked to crochet and knit and made many items to give to others. She was a member of the Littleton United Methodist Church and was always active in the churches in all the various towns they lived in. She was happy to spend as much time as possible with friends and family. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Leonard and her three children, Terri Longstaff Rydberg, Frederick, Maryland; John D. Longstaff of Littleton, Colorado and Leslie Ann Longstaff Foster of Littleton, Colorado. She also is survived by three grandchildren, Daniel Rydberg and his wife Rose; Andrew Longstaff and Corinna Foster and one great grandchild, Max. She is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Wilcox and Arlene Occhiuto and her husband Tony. Phyllis had a very generous and loving heart and made friends wherever they lived. She was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer which required back surgery on her spine and which eventually and too quickly took her life. We ask in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Denver Hospice who helped handle the last month of her care. The memorial service will be on Saturday, December 10th at 2:00 p.m. at the Littleton United Methodist Church, 5894 S. Datura Street, Littleton, CO 80120. A reception will follow. Please no flowers, the church will be beautifully decorated for the advent season. We ask if you would like to do something in her honor to please donate to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or Denver Hospice, 501 S. Cherry Street, Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246-1328.
