He married Justina Uballe on November 10, 1951. Raymond worked as a chemical operator at Shell Chemical Company for 30 years, retiring in 1979. Subsequently he worked for the Town of Frederick Water Treatment Plant, and later worked at Fifth Street Liquors in Frederick. He was also a retiree of the Frederick Firestone Fire Protection District. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Frederick Fire Department for more than 20 years. He retired from service with the Frederick Fire Department June 5, 1986.Â
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Alex and Edward Alvarado; brothers, Arthur and Emmett Alvarado, and Jessie Betances; and sister, Jennie Tait. He is survived by his wife, Justina U. Alvarado; son, Raymond (Kathlenne) Alvarado Jr. of Greeley; daughter, Jo-Ann (Michael) Alvarado of Thornton; brother, John (Vera) Alvarado of El Monte, Calif.; sisters, Frances Alvarado of Wheat Ridge, Mary (Alex) Montano of Erie, Christine (Gilbert) Roybal of Arvada, and Virginia Anaya of San Jose, Calif.; grandchildren, Aaron, Jason, Rachel, Sarah, Joanne, Michael, Adrian, Jared, Christine, Garrick, Eddie, and Kaitlin; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew, Xavier, Jayden, Joshua, Isaiah, Mia, Levi, Aiden, JayJay, Julian, Anthony, Dominic, Isabelle, and Dylan Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.Â
Raymond had a loving, caring, nurturing soul. He enjoyed, most of all, spending time with family. A labor of love which spanned most of his life, at an early age he helped his mother raise his younger siblings; he raised his four children as well as three grandchildren. When he wasn’t working and providing for his family, Raymond enjoyed fishing, solving cross word puzzles and loved working in his flower garden.Â
Gardeners are special people. It takes patience and perseverance and a love for living things to grow a garden or a beautiful flower. Gardening is tedious and hard work, but there is something that gardeners know and experience that others sometimes do not. There is a beauty and a satisfaction in seeing the result of our labor grow and come to fruition. There is a peacefulness that can come over us as we care for and nurture the flowers and plants in a garden. In nurturing living things and helping to bring beauty and peace to the world, gardeners make a difference in the world and make their lives and the lives of those who see their gardens richer and fuller. Â
Raymond leaves his loved ones a legacy of his love and perseverance. Â
