Obituary for Richard Clair Wake
Richard (Dick) Wake of Denver, CO passed away Sept. 13 at the age of 78. Dick was born on May 28, 1935 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He graduated 60 years ago from Oskaloosa High School. In addition to Iowa, he lived in Omaha, Nebraska; Florida; England; Houston, TX; and Denver. For many years, he sold yachts out of Houston, where he also raised his five children with his first wife Pearl. In 1995, he moved to Denver and met Mary Grace. They were married in 1999 and celebrated their 14th anniversary shortly before his death. Together they enjoyed traveling to such places as Greece, Hawaii, the West Coast and Wisconsin. They also spent a lot of time in the mountains where they hiked and snow shoed. Dick loved the mountains, the ocean and taking in a good baseball game. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, family and his two beloved dogs, Ding and Bella. Dick was a member of Montview Presbyterian Church. Dick is survived by wife Mary Grace of Denver; sisters Pam Wake of Lafayette, CO and Patt (Bob) Sunstrum of Dallas; children Jeff (Priscilla) Wake, Lori (Tom) Horbey, Brandt (Laura) Wake, Kelly (Jeff) Barba and Lisa (Rick) Cloutier all of Texas; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson to be born soon. A memorial service will be held at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia St. Denver, on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 3:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.
