Obituary for Robert Warren Anderson
Robert 'Bob' Anderson was born January 10, 1920 in Topeka Kansas but grew up in Des Moines Iowa. His father F.C. Anderson started a flying school in Iowa in the 1930s and Bob got his pilot's license at age 16. He attended Drake University. Later he finished his degree in Colorado where he lived. Bob started working for United Airlines in 1942. During World War II he transported military planes and cargo throughout the United States. He also taught military glider pilots. After the war he flew DC-3s for United Airlines. He met the love of his life, Clara who was a stewardress for United Airlines and they were married on June 4, 1946. Daughter Judy was born in 1947 and son James in 1953. Bob continued with United Airlines as a flight simulator test pilot until his retirement in 1982. At this time for the next 20 years he taught students from around the world at the United Airlines training center in Denver on the DC-8 and DC-10 simulator which he enjoyed tremendously. Also, as a retirement job he worked at Cherry Creek Middle School serving on the lunch line. The kids called him 'Cool Bob'. Clara passed away in 2008 after his months of loving care when she became ill. He kept active going to exercise class at Malley Senior Center and volunteering at Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space museum where he received many complements for his vast knowledge of airplanes. He also enjoyed greatly going to Pine Shadows, his mountain home in Grand Lake most every summer weekend with his son Jim and wife Janis. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren- Kristen and Kevin and 2 great-grandchildren Jordan and Kylie. He will be sadly missed by the many people who knew and loved him. If you wish to make a donation in Bob's name in leiu of flowers he would have liked to be to Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, 7711 East Academy Blvd., Denver, Colorado, 80230 or www.wingsmuseum.org
