The birth of his grandchildren Madelyne Avery Keenan on January 30, 2004 and his grandson Zachary Evan Keenan on June 14, 2007, fueled his love for photography. They just might have been the most photographed children in Colorado. In fact, he won second prize for a photograph of his granddaughter, Madelyne, in PC Magazine in 2008. Walter was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Paul and Ernestine Coet, daughter, Heidi Coet, and niece, Tara Coet-Felmly.
