Obituary for William "Bill" Warner
Westminster - William L. Warner (Bill), age 83 died Saturday, August 1, 2015 at St. Anthony North.
Bill was born June 25, 1932 in Shelton, Nebraska to Francis L. Warner and Anna (Quinn) Warner. He graduated from Spaulding Public School in 1949. Enlisted in USMCR on August 21, 1951 and received an Honorable Discharge on August 20, 1959.
Bill is a veteran of the Korean War, where he earned several medals, including the Silver Star Medal; Korean Service Medal W/3; United Nations Medal; Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Medal; Korean P.U.C.
Bill served three years with distinction as a Marine in Korea and received the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea. Corporal Warner fearlessly positioned himself at a vantage point that to protect and deliver a continuous hail of accurate fire which prevented the enemy from overrunning their position. Corporal Warner carried his wounded comrades to the outpost through heavy enemy fire. His exceptional courage, aggressive fighting and unwavering devotion to duty inspired all who observed him and contributed to the success of his unit.
Post war, Bill enjoyed careers with Union Pacific Railroad as a Telegrapher and with Yellow Cab as Taxi Cab Driver. He enjoyed driving and retired 10 years ago.
Bill will fondly be remember by all who knew him as an avid reader of philosophy. Most recently learning Latin. He worked tirelessly to keep his mind sharp through the studies of anything he could get his hand on.
He loved woodworking, writing, the Opera and Symphony and was passionate about his rose garden and yard.
Bill is survived by his sisters Phyllis Thomas, Colleen Maurer and five children; Blake, Mark, David, Christine and Wendy. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Timothy, Melinda, Sean, Crystal, Erik and three Great Grandchildren: Ayden, Payten and MacKenzie, many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his Parents, and sisters Lorraine and Vera Jo.
Funeral Services will begin on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 10 am. Visitation will be held at DeWitt and Tabler Funeral Home located at 12114 Grant Circle, Thornton, CO 80241. From there directly to Fort Logan National Cemetery 3700 S. Sheridan Blvd. Denver, CO 80236.
