Obituary for Orville Mark Skattum
Orville Mark Skattum, (Mark) 91,  died on July 4, 2020, 11:55 p.m., at the VA hospital in Aurora, Colorado, after a brief struggle with COVID-19  illness.

He leaves his wife of 66 years, Jeanette (Mouw) Skattum, sons Kim and his wife, Sheryl; Kevin and his wife, Kimberle;  daughter, Karla Tillapaugh and her husband Todd; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on December 3, 1928, the son of Oliver Marius and Minnie (Sjolseth) Skattum.  Mark was a premature baby, weighing two pounds, and not expected to live.  He was placed on the window sill in a shoe box while the Dr. focused on his mother’s health needs after a difficult time with the birth.  All assumed he would die quickly.  However, his mom took him home and fed him with an eye dropper. God had plans for this man.

Mark spent his childhood on a Minnesota farm where he was injured in a plane crash.  His brother Wendel, lifted the plane to get Mark out.  The next day, Wendel couldn’t budge the plane.  Mark suffered a flattened nose requiring surgery to reconstruct it. He graduated high school from Hills High School in Minnesota.  Mark’s sister introduced him to Jeanette in 1953, and they were married in the pastor’s parsonage at Hills Christian Reformed Church on February 26, 1954.
Mark served in the United States Army during the Korean war where he reached the rank of Sargent.

After serving with the army, Mark worked in freight transportation. He and Jeanette (Jan) moved to California from Minnesota, then Laramie Wyoming, before finally settling in Northglenn, Colorado in 1967, where they finished raising their children.  He was very involved in the community and his church.

Mark is preceded in death by his father and mother and his siblings:  Marie Martha, Asle Ole,Orlando Marvin (Orrie), Sylvia Lucille, Donald Orly Julian (Toby), Myrttus Marilyn, and Oliver Wendel (Teddy), one son, Jeffrey, and a great grandson, Jack Dryer.

Memorial gifts may be given to LightBridge International.  P.O. Box 6007, Broomfield, CO 80021 or at lightbridgeonline.org

A man of character, compassion, and conviction, Mark will be deeply missed and always greatly loved.
