Obituary for Randolph F. 'CASEY' Jones
RANDOLPH F. “CASEY” JONES Randolph F. “Casey” Jones, Founder and Conductor Emeritus of The Colorado Choir and longtime conductor of the Adams State Choir, Alamosa, CO, age 87, passed away on February 15, 2013. Born in Erskine, MN, Jones attended Augustana Academy. In 1998, he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD. As a graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, he was named Outstanding Alumnus in 2000. His master’s and doctoral work were at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. In 1995, Jones was inducted into the Colorado Music Educators Association Hall of Fame and, in 1997, awarded the Colorado Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. The Colorado Choir under his leadership performed over 50 concerts with the Denver Symphony Orchestra. During his 60 year career, he performed over 1200 concerts in 26 states and 15 foreign countries and 1800 church services. His life work was “to reveal with conviction the profound musical thoughts of great composers.” Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine Jones in 2011, and is survived by four children: Rebecca Jones of Bemidji, MN, Drs. Randa (Randy) Degerness, Nathan Jones and Kirsten (Jay) Peaslee of Denver, CO, twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Av., Denver, CO, (303) 388-4678 on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 1:00 pm. Past choir members of Casey are invited to join in the memorial service.
