Obituary for Leona Esther Buckles
Leona Esther Buckles, 86, of Thornton, CO passed away peacefully May 10, 2014 at the home of her daughter, LeAnne Barbin, in Thornton, CO. Funeral services will be held at United Methodist Church in Northglenn, CO on May 24, 2014 at 10:00 am with Reverend Paul Brunner officiating. Leona was born in Hyde County, South Dakota on February 28, 1928 to Hilda and Otto Fuerst. Hilda and Otto had a total of 19 children including Leona, who was the 5th child to be born. Family was always very important to Leona. Her love for her mother, father, sisters, brothers, and her own children was unconditional, and she lived to her last day devoted to making sure each one was taken care of. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilda and Otto, 4 sisters, and 6 brothers, beloved grandson, Aaron Barbin, and great grandson, Dominic Zundel. Leona is survived by her former spouse Donald Buckles of Mitchell, South Dakota, and all seven children: Terry, (Connie) Zundel; MaryAnn, (Bob) Proctor; LeAnne, (Al) Barbin; Wayne Buckles; Doug, (Cindy) Buckles; Roger, (Beth) Buckles; and Julie, (Greg) Johnson. She also is survived by 23 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and many friends who loved her. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Visiting Nurse Association - Hospice Care Team for their support in her final days.
